(Fergus Falls, MN) Lake Region Healthcare (LRH) CEO Larry Schulz has announced his intentions to retire in May of 2017, closing out a 40-year career in healthcare administration.
Schulz was named CEO at LRH in December of 2008. During his tenure at LRH he has overseen the planning and opening of the Cancer Center, the Walk-In Clinic and the new Main Clinic Services construction projects. He also led the organization through the integration of Lake Region Healthcare with the Fergus Falls Medical Group and with Barnesville Area Clinic and Prairie Ridge Hospital and Health Services.
Schulz was instrumental in driving the key strategies of growth, independence and financial stability at LRH and has done significant work toward building partnerships to create a rural health model that works, according to Board Chair, John Erickson. “Larry has been a tremendous leader for this organization and for the health care community,” he added.
Schulz has served on numerous healthcare organization boards including service as the Chair of the Minnesota Hospital Association, the Chair of the American Hospital Association Section for Small or Rural Hospitals, and the Secretary of the Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI).
Schulz has been recognized for his community service and in 1994 was named as one of ten outstanding young Minnesotans. He has served as co-chair of Forward Fergus Falls, and is a board member of Lake Region Community Partners and a member of Kiwanis. Prior to joining LRH, Schulz served seven years as the Senior Vice President of Operations for Catholic Health Initiatives, Denver, CO. His years in healthcare administration have also included CEO assignments in Arlington, MN; Faribault, MN; and Little Falls, MN.
The LRH Board of Trustees has retained a national executive search firm to help find Schulz’s successor.
