LRH hosts summer interns to help prepare for healthcare careers

(FERGUS FALLS, Minn.) Lake Region Healthcare (LRH) has had the pleasure of hosting two summer interns this year in a partnership designed to offer students experience and exposure to health care careers.

Ryan Siems is a 2014 Fergus Falls High School graduate who is now a student at Minnesota State University in Moorhead. Ryan is pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a Management Emphasis and a Human Resource Business Partner minor. He spent his summer internship in the LRH Human Resources Department processing job applications, posting job openings, and helping with other personnel management tasks. Ryan said the experience opened his eyes to the broad range of work involved in Human Resources. “There is so much more to HR than I had realized going into this internship,” he said. “Getting a sense of what really goes on inside an HR department in terms of laws, regulations, and the variety of different tasks was very valuable. I hope I can take what I learned from LRH and apply it in my future career,” he added.

Grace Noyes will be a senior at Underwood High School this fall and completed her internship working both at the Lake Region Healthcare Health & Wellness Hub and in patient care areas of the hospital. Grace said she learned different things in each aspect of her internship. “I helped train athletes at the Hub and learned that any one at any age can do any exercise.”  She added that while working in patient care she learned “having a smile on your face can brighten any patient’s day.” After graduating from Underwood High School next spring she plans to attend NDSU to major in Nursing.

Funding for the LRH Summer Health Care Internship Program is provided through a contract with the Office of Rural Health and Primary Care, Minnesota Department of Health.
