Community Invited to Blue Christmas Service
Heather Rundquist

Service attends to the needs of people who may be feeling blue at Christmas

Blue Christmas? Yes, blue. Blue as in the blues. As in “I’m feeling blue.”

Not everyone is upbeat and cheer-filled during the Christmas holidays. Dealing with the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with the loss of a job, living with cancer or some other disease that puts a question mark over the future, and any number of human situations can make seasonal parties and holiday merriness painful for many people in our communities.

That’s why area churches and Lake Region Healthcare’s Chaplaincy services are again partnering to offer a service of comfort, healing and hope for anyone who, for whatever reason, may struggle to have a merry Christmas.

“A Blue Christmas service attends to the needs of people who may be feeling blue at Christmas,” said Federated Church pastor, Doug Dent. “This service is intended to create space, within the holiday season, to stop and breathe, to honor our blue feelings, and to remind one another of the love and healing and hope offered to us by God,” he said.

“This year we are honored to have Heather Rundquist, who lost her husband, Tim, in 2014, share her story with us,” he added.  “We want everyone to know they are welcome to join us as we remember the light of Christ that shines brightly in the world’s darkness.”

This service is offered through a partnership of local area congregations and Lake Region Healthcare’s Chaplaincy services and will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, December 21st. The service will be held at the Federated Church which is located at 221 North Union Ave in downtown Fergus Falls.
