Hamline Professor, Cancer Survivor Deanna Thompson Returns to Cancer Center
Author will share her thoughts on sustaining hope and how cancer & faith intersect

(FERGUS FALLS, Minn.) – Lake Region Healthcare (LRH) will host Deanna Thompson to speak to cancer patients, families, and the community Tuesday, February 24 at 7 pm at the Cancer Care and Research Center.

Thompson, a religion professor at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., has stage IV cancer.  The author of ‘Hoping for More: Having Cancer, Talking Faith, and Accepting Grace,” Thompson discusses her experience with cancer and how faith has intersected with that experience.

“We are pleased to welcome Deanna Thompson back to the community and Lake Region Healthcare.  Her experience with cancer and continued work in academics and theology highlight her as a powerful influence for our patients, families, and healthcare staff,” said Echo Breen, LRH Cancer Center Administrator.

“Sustaining Hope in the Toughest of Times” will be the focus for her presentations – one for the general public and one especially for health care staff.  The public is invited to attend an evening session on Tuesday, February 24th. Thompson will offer her insights on what to say and do that offers healing, hope, and love to those living with cancer.  This session will be at 7:00 pm February 24th.

Her second presentation for health care providers will be on February 25th at 9:30am in the Conference Room at the Cancer Care and Research Center. Designed specifically for healthcare staff and providers only, Thompson will use this session to discuss what cancer patients really need from their medical providers.

Both sessions are free to attendees and will be held at the Cancer Care and Research Center at 908 South Cascade Street in Fergus Falls.
