Lake Region Healthcare Cancer Center Offers New Educational Series
Dr. Margaret Barnes

First Session on September 8 to feature Dr. Margaret Barnes

(FERGUS FALLS, Minn.) – Patient education plays a major role in empowering patients and families with cancer.

That’s why Lake Region Healthcare’s Cancer Care & Research Center (LRHCCRC) has developed an opportunity for patients and families to participate in an educational series to help people understand the disease, treatment, side effect management and other information to improve quality of life during treatment & beyond.

“Given the complex nature of the disease, cancer patients and families have a variety of information/educational needs throughout their cancer journey. Information concerning diagnosis, treatment and support services is typically the highest priority for patients and families,” according to Echo Breen, Administrative Director at the Cancer Center.

The educational forums will be held the second Monday of each month in the Cancer Care & Research Center Conference Room.  Knowledgeable professionals will be presenting on such topics as trends in cancer treatment and research, financial resources, celebrating life, survivorship, preplanning, healthcare directives, community resources, wellness, nutrition, and much more.

The series will begin on Monday, September 8th with and introduction to the series and a presentation on Trends in Cancer Care & Research. This session will be presented by LRH Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Margaret Barnes. Her discussion will look at the new information and technology, and the current trends in cancer medicine.

By examining the delivery of care provided to the “average” patient with cancer, Dr. Barnes hopes to share the state of the art, the short-comings, the challenges, and the triumphs surrounding cancer care.

All sessions are free and open to the public, but registration is requested to plan for refreshments. Please call 218.736.8688 for information or to register.

Individual session topics and details will be available on the “Education & Events” link at www.lrhc.org.
