“Topics in EMS” Conference in Fergus Falls February 14th

Improving time-critical emergency health care for rural patients goal of educational sessions

(Fergus Falls, Minn.) –  Ringdahl and Stevens County Ambulance services are partnering with several health care professionals and organizations to sponsor “Topics in EMS: Time Critical Calls” in Fergus Falls on Saturday February 14th. The focus of the day long continuing education conference is on time-sensitive conditions that require rural EMS and hospital emergency departments to respond rapidly and initiate time critical care to improve patient care & survival.

There will be nine sessions presented throughout the day including an opening session by Dr. Kevin Sipprell of Ridgeview Ambulance Service on “Dispatch Assisted CPR….Every Second Matters.”  This session will focus on the critical role that emergency communication personnel at our 911 centers play in a healthcare system.

“Recognizing the urgency of the call and coaching the caller to provide immediate life-saving care before Police and Paramedics arrive on scene is critical during many of these time critical calls” according to Randy Fischer,  conference coordinator.  Cardiac Arrest, STEMI, Cardiac & Stroke Case Studies, Pediatric Pain Management, and Poisons & Drugs are among other topics to be covered at the conference. Kevin Miller, Deputy Chief of Allina Health EMS will present the closing session on the story of his agency’s response to the nightmare event of an ambulance crash.

The conference runs from 8am to 5pm at the Bigwood Event Center in Fergus Falls and is intended for Physicians & Advanced Practice Professional, EMT’s, Paramedics, RN’s, EMR’s, Firefighters, Law Enforcement personnel, 911 communications staff and all healthcare & emergency professionals seeking continuing medical education.

Following the conference, the Western Minnesota Chapter of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association (SCAA) will host a Cardiac Arrest Survivor & Rescuer Banquet bringing together advocates, supporters, educators, and healthcare providers with survivors of cardiac arrest and their rescuers.  Social Hour, dinner and short recognition program begins at 5:30. Cardiac arrest survivors and their spouse are invited to attend the banquet free of charge.  Contact Randy Fischer, chapter chairperson for more information on this event.
