The Fight Against Cancer Gets Dirty at Viking Challenge

Register by September 1st to guarantee your timing chip & shirt

A full day of muddy fun is planned for men, women, teams, families, and anyone willing to get dirty in the mud for a good cause on September 20th at 3rd annual Viking Challenge & Crusade near Fergus Falls.

The Viking Challenge and Crusade are extreme wilderness mud runs in beautiful Otter Tail County. Located just 5 miles North of Fergus Falls in Northwestern Minnesota, The Viking Challenge is unlike all the "other" mud runs, as it is on a permanent location and built into the natural beauty of 300 acres of wilderness. Rolling hills and permanent obstacles creatively nestled into the natural landscape make the location and event truly one of a kind.

Fun for all ages, all ability levels, the event includes a 5K Challenge, a 10K Crusade and a Mud Volleyball Tournament. Participants and spectators can also enjoy onsite camping, DJ music, live music, food, beverages (including adult beverages), and more. Even extreme athletes will be challenged by the 10K through ponds, mud obstacles, climbing and rugged terrain.  However, any of the obstacles can be bypassed.

The Ringdahl family, founders of Ringdahl Ambulance Service in Fergus Falls, would call it a family affair. Not just because families are encouraged to participate, but because it’s about their family giving back. Two local causes will benefit from the event: The Lake Region Healthcare Cancer Care & Research Center, and Dough 4 Joe.

The Ringdahl’s son, Tollef, was diagnosed with leukemia in 1986 when he was eight years old. At that time, it meant traveling to Minneapolis to the University Hospital for treatment. After six weeks in the hospital and 3 years of cancer treatments, Tollef has been cancer free ever since.

“My family knows we are fortunate to have a Cancer Center here in Fergus Falls that’s in a league of its own, offering world-class care right here at home. We want to support this awesome local resource,” Tollef Ringdahl said.   “Dough 4 Joe, is a local group offering financial support to struggling families in the Fergus Falls area and they have selflessly been working toward the greater good since 2005 when the group was formed to support the family of Joe Sampson. They are simply good people doing good things and we are proud to be a part of their fundraising as well,” he added.

“There’s really going to be something for everyone – we just hope everyone will come out and support the event and have a great time,” Tollef added.

If the race is not full by race day there will be registrations accepted on-site, however there is no guarantee that late registrations (after September 1st) will receive a participant T-Shirt or timing chip for timing your individual run. Registration and event details are available at www.thevikingchallenge.com
