Local Cancer Survivors Invited to Participate in National Programs

(Fergus Falls, MN) Lake Region Healthcare’s Cancer Care & Research Center invited local cancer survivors to participate in two programs recommended by the Minnesota Cancer Alliance.

The first is a free online workshop and study sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS). The “Cancer: Thriving and Surviving” workshop is a self-management online program developed at Stanford University for post-treatment cancer survivors. The six-week workshop brings together about 25 cancer survivors per group. Each group is led by two cancer survivors who have been trained to conduct the workshop. The workshop is done entirely online and can be started at any time – you choose the days and times that are most convenient for you. There is no cost to participate. Contact Heather.Hirsch@state.mn.us for additional information get more information on the Thriving and Surviving Study on their participant registration page.

The second is an opportunity for breast cancer survivors. Pathways has received a Susan G. Komen Minnesota grant to offer free-of-cost four 3-day Renewing Life retreats for 60 breast cancer survivors and training for 20 individuals to become Renewing Life facilitators. These retreats are scheduled in Farming, MN in June and August; in Stanchfield, MN in September and in Wayzata, MN in January 2014. Renewing Life is designed to empower survivors to live authentically using practical tools, which support participants to view illness and loss as opportunities for spiritual and emotional growth For additional information or to inquire about registering for one of the retreats, please contact Pathways’ Program Manager, Carol Burling at carol@pathwaysmpls.org or 612-822-9061.
