Fergus Falls Athletic Republic Run Adds New Features

Registration fees set to increase May 1

(FERGUS FALLS, Minn.) – Space is still available for participants in the 7th Annual Fergus Falls Athletic Republic Run on June 1. Entry fees will increase on May 1 for the half-marathon, half-marathon relay, 5K, 1-Mile and Combo Run.

This year marks several new additions to the event to encourage more participation than ever. New events include:

A Combo Run. The Combo Run allows participants to run in both the 1-Mile and 5K races.  This is a great option for parents who want to do the 1 mile with their child and the 5K on their own.

Awareness Groups. Runners and walkers can also join an Awareness Group and race for a cause. Several groups have organized to raise awareness for causes such as Parkinson’s, Autism, Bullying, Drunk Driving and more. A link to the full list of groups and contact information can be found on Athletic Republic Run’s home page, www.athleticrepublicrun.com.

Run the Schools. In an effort to expand the health impact of training for and running a race to more children, Lake Region Healthcare (LRH) has partnered with local schools and physical education classes to offer free registration packets for youth runners to participate in the 5K or 1-Mile race. Family members were offered lower rates to run with their child. Questions about the Run the School program can be directed to Karoline Gustafson at Athletic Republic (218) 736-8451.

Couch to 5K Training. Free training sessions are offered by LRH and Athletic Republic volunteers. To join a Couch to 5K training group, check out the schedule on Facebook by searching Fergus Falls Gets off the Couch.

Race proceeds benefit the LRH Cancer Care & Research Center. Last year’s event had 991 registered runners – the most participants to date.

“This run is a great way for families to get together, get active and get healthy,” Race Coordinator Jarrod Asmus said. “Athletic Republic wants to do everything possible to promote healthy lifestyles for families. This event allows us to partner with so many groups in the community to make an impact both on individual wellness and on the great resource our Cancer Center provides to families facing cancer,”Asmus added.

Online registration closes 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 30. Participants can still register for the event on May 31 and on race day until 8 a.m. at Athletic Republic located at 619 South Cascade Street.

Registration and complete weekend event information can be found online at www.athleticrepublicrun.com.
