Alert: Medicare Phone Scam

After investigating a report from a local patient, Lake Region Healthcare believes it to be a case of Medicare Phone Scam. The patient recently received a phone call from an out of state phone number (831-217-1159) claiming to be a Medicare representative. The caller was trying to offer free knee and back braces to senior citizens and was asking the patient to verify their Medicare information. The phone number appears to be linked to a Medicare scam and has been reported to law enforcement. If patients receive a phone call from this or a similar caller they should not provide them with any personal information.

Here are some resources for more background and tips on avoiding Medicare scams.
