Staff Chaplain

Description:  The Staff Chaplain facilitates and/or provides chaplaincy care and services for patients, their loved ones and staff of Lake Region Healthcare. S/he communicates and provides liaison with faith communities within the service area by: participation in Ministerial Association activities; providing support services for community healthcare ministries and maintaining the founding spirit and current corporate relationships with area faith communities and leaders.  The Staff Chaplain reports directly to the Chaplaincy Director. The Staff Chaplain works regular, daytime business hours, M-F, but is subject to being called back in emergencies according to LRH
Emergency Management Plan.

A.   This position requires a Masters of Divinity (M. Div), or equivalent advanced         degree in pastoral studies and theology from an accredited institution, and:
  I.   Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)- minimum 4 units completed
  II.   Ecclesiastical Endorsement by candidate’s judicatory/denomination/national organization for Chaplaincy or equivalent
  III.   Board Certification, or eligibility for certification with completion within 2 years, by the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National  Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) or equivalent
B.   The Staff Chaplain must have demonstrated theological, emotional and psychological understanding and application of chaplaincy, liturgical worship, professional ethics, and   pastoral counseling role in a healthcare setting.
C.   Must be able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with area   clergy.
D.   Knowledge and training in Stephen Ministry helpful
E.   Develop and maintain positive working relationships with hospital/CCRC staff, medical staff, patients and families.
F.   Meet unique needs of specific nursing units for pastoral care and counseling while providing appropriate, responsive chaplaincy services to patients, and their families; such    as care of the patient and their families around the end of life.
G.   Understand the physician/patient relationship and its legal and ethical implications.
H.    Prepare statistical reports on service and care provided. Written communications and computer skills are important.
I.     Knowledge of oncology very helpful.
