The purpose of this position is to act in a leadership role, assisting with the ordering of supplies, enhancement of communication among cafeteria staff and production personnel and to perform performance appraisals for Cafeteria Assistants. The Cafeteria Assistant serves meals to cafeteria patrons in a clean, well stocked, and attractive presentation. This position reports to the Food Service Coordinator. The Lead Cafeteria Assistant position has contact with hospital employees, volunteers, community personnel, visitors, patients, administration, and physicians. Effective interpersonal and communication skills are essential in this position. The incumbent will complete the work procedures and priorities within imposed time frame.
High school diploma or equivalent. One year’s experience in a hospitality related leadership role is desirable. Serv Safe certification or MN Department of Health Food Manager certification or willingness to successfully complete Serv Safe certification course. Ability to read, write, follow, and give written instructions accurately. Must be able to effectively communicate standards and changes to all Cafeteria personnel. Must be able to adjust to changing needs. Ability to interact with patients, physicians, employees, and guests. Ability to accurately make monetary transactions. Must be able to work with a variety of Cafeteria customers and Food Service personnel. Ability to balance responsibilities as a leader with role as a co-worker. Must be able to confront service issues with a coaching approach. Must be able to foresee upcoming menu needs and notify production personnel in a timely manner to ensure continuity of service while minimizing over production. Able to correctly calculate purchases and give correct change. Able to handle customer complaints in a calm, constructive manner.
Must be able to attend the work site per schedule.
