The purpose of the MLT position is to perform procedures in all sections of the laboratory. The shift may include days, PMs, and nights. This position requires a trained, specialized individual who has the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations. The MLT works closely with patients, the pathologist, office staff, physicians, nursing service, and other laboratory and hospital personnel. Effective interpersonal and communication skills are essential. The incumbent has access to sensitive, confidential information, and must be able to maintain those confidences.
High school diploma or equivalent level of education preferred, two years associated science degree or equivalent, prefer laboratory training culminating in National Certification, MLT (ASCP or equivalent). Ability to communicate in English effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to use a computer. Ability to follow detailed blood collection and lab procedures and train for new procedures as needed. Requires the ability to perform at an independent level with minimal direction; exercise good judgement and initiative; problem solve, and make decisions in a variety of situations. Must be able to attend work site per schedule. Duties may require limited amount of non-scheduled overtime hours as work load requires.
